Hotel Chantelle

This review is specifically for Speakteasy on Sunday nights at Hotel Chantelle.  It's a 4-course pre fixe, paired with cocktails, and a burlesque show.  It's probably one of the most fun dates I've ever had in NYC, and the food is awesome.

A friend of ours works for Sailor Jerry's rum, so Tom and I joined her and some friends while they were featuring Sailor Jerry cocktail pairings.  The space is so cool - old paintings on the walls, a small stage up front, and gorgeous wood-lined booths and a bar downstairs.  The burlesque show, which I thought was going to be weird, was actually hilarious.  It's a variety show - including a little bit of stripping - but mostly stand-up and songs by a group of women and 1 or 2 guys.

As far as food goes, I tried to keep with my diet as well as I could. I tried some hummus, lobster (not the pasta though...I was good about that), salmon over tomato and beet caviar..all were delicious.  However, I absolutely lost my mind over the shortcake  I'm not even that much of a dessert person, but as soon as I tasted it I abandoned all semblance of eating healthily and was practically licking the plate and moaning.  It's like a creme brulee sugar crust,  outside a rich creamy center that's so flavorful and awesome, I lost my mind.
 

Cocktails were fantastic too - from a rum arnold palmer to a rum & ginger beer concoction, I was tipsy and having a great time before I realized how much I'd had. 

A date at a cool location with great food and unusual entertainment - win all around.
